Hey y’all! This Coffee Filter Butterfly craft is one of the easiest, yet cutest crafts I have ever made! Which makes it a great project for Preschool kids or even your Sunday school class! Another bonus is that they are super cheap and you more than likely have the supplies on hand.
What you need:
- Coffee Filter.
- Clothes Pin.
- Markers.
- Craft Pipe Cleaner. (Half.)
- Spray Bottle. (Filled with water.)
- Container. (Optional.)
How to make a coffee filter butterfly
Step 1:

You will first need to flatten the coffee filter and draw your design. I kept my design simple and the colors compatible so the butterfly wings would look similar.
Step 2:

Secondly, using the spray bottle, you will need to wet the entire coffee filter. This is also where the container comes in. I wanted to be able to keep the mess in one place, as well as not stain my table.
P.S.- Be sure to thoroughly wet down the coffee filter.
Then let it dry completely!
Step 3:

Your third step, once the filter is dry, is to fold it accordion style. It doesn’t matter how wide each fold is, but mine was maybe 1-2 inches.
Step 4:

And your last step is to put the Coffee Filter Butterfly together. To do so simply pinch the accordion folded filter in the middle and clip on the clothes pin.
Once you have the clothes pin positioned in the middle, gently spread open the filter to create the wings.
Then you can add a face or body (like my daughter did- she made the butterfly on the bottom), as well as antennas!
To make the antenna simply fold the craft pipe cleaner in half and slightly twist the folded end to help keep the two sides together. Then bend the top slightly and clip into the clothes pin.
And there you have it! Hope you and your kiddos had fun!
And as always I’d love to hear your feed back! You can leave a comment below!
