Psalm 121:1-2– “I will lift up my eyes to the hills-from whence comes my help? My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
There are many times in our lives when we feel like we are stuck in a dark valley, and there doesn’t appear to be a clear way out. Our hearts are full of despair, anguish, and sorrow. The devil has convinced us that we are alone, no one cares, and we are in a hopeless situation.

My eyes were opened in the valley
I must admit, I have been in that valley before. 2020 was a bit of a rollercoaster for me personally. At the beginning of the year my dad was diagnosed with cancer. which took the wind out of my sails. Then seeing the affects of the Covid-19 pandemic did me in. I let the pain in my heart control my head and every emotion in my being (in a very negative way).
Day after day I allowed anger and sadness to consume me, which made me feel physically sick. I had given the devil exactly what he wanted. But one day, while in the darkest part of the valley, a ray of light invaded me- Psalm 121:1-2! A voice inside my heart told me to “lift up my eyes to the hills”! After that I realized that looking to the Creator was the only way I would survive this trial!
I will lift up my eyes in the valley
No matter how dark your valley seems or how treacherous the climb may be, remember to keep looking to the light shining over those hills! Because Jesus is the way, He is the light, He is our compass. And no matter how much we blame Him along the way for the situation we are going through He is always willing to forgive us! I look at it like this- my kids will get mad at me for their toys falling over, simply because they are mad and looking for someone to blame. (This is what we do to God.) But no matter how many times my kids blame me I will always forgive and forget, because I love them. (We are God’s children and He will never stop loving us!)
So, keep your eyes open, lifted to the hills, and let His light lead your way! And remember to keep walking, because standing still in that dark valley is getting you nowhere. I know it’s painful and exhausting. However, just know that He is guiding your every step!
